Helping in School

We value the support of volunteers enormously.  All volunteers in school are required to have a D.B.S. (Disclosure & Barring Service) check (Previously called the Criminals Record Bureau (C.B.S.) carried out on them before allowing them to help.

Parents / carers and friends of the school support the school in a variety of ways for example:

  • Assisting in classrooms
  • Listening to the children read
  • Gardening, cooking or sewing
  • Accompanying children on educational visits
  • Support on occasional themed days (e.g. History off the Page)
  • Running a club, if they have the necessary skills and time

We encourage parents to share any skills they can offer for the benefit of the school.  Occasional help is as welcome as a regular commitment.  Please talk to us if you would like to help.

Parent Teacher Association – C.B.A. (Clipstone Brook Association)

All parents and staff are automatically members of the C.B.A.  The association aims to support the work of the school and to provide opportunities and resources to benefit all pupils.  We have an active and supportive C.B.A. Committee and new members are always welcome.  If you would like to join then please don’t hesitate to speak to either the Headteacher or the Office Staff who will put you in touch with a member of the C.B.A. committee for further advice.

The C.B.A. sends out regular letters outlining their activities and giving information about how parents can support these.  All funds raised are for the direct benefit of the children in the school.

Our School Councils

Each class has two elected members of the Junior Management Team from Years 1 – 4 (inclusive.)  They meet regularly to discuss issues brought up in their classes and report back to their peers.

  • The junior management team also plan and run their own stalls at the school fairs to raise funds for their own projects.
  • They can be part of interviewing panels for senior teaching staff.
  • Ofsted usually interview the junior management team for their views on school life.

Other children are part of our ECO Schools Steering Committee and with all the other pupils are helping us to reduce our carbon footprint. We are hoping to gain the Bronze ‘Green Flag’.

They are also involved in the Food for Life Project and we hope to gain the Bronze award. They are expected to get the views and opinions of their peers and feedback to school council meetings. This project involves eating healthily, sourcing local produce where possible, growing and cooking our own herbs, fruit & vegetables. Our school garden is part of this project and so is working with the community.

We also have ‘Buddy Helpers.’  Two or three children are chosen from each class to help at play times and lunch times to help sort out any children’s problems.
